In 2013, El Paso premiered its latest Minor League Baseball Team. Prior to that, there was a contest to name the team. El Pasoans submitted a variety of names with the finalists being Aardvarks, Buckaroos, Chihuahuas, Desert Gators & Sun Dogs. They settled on Chihuahuas but that name never sat well with me. Though the name has grown into the city’s heart, I always wondered about what name would provide fascination & intimidation all at once. Using their current mascot as a reference, I came up with "Chupacabras" as an alternative to their current name.
